Polarisation charges and scattering behaviour of realistically rounded plasmonic nanostructures.
We study the effect of realistically rounding nanorod antennae and gap antennae on their far field and near field properties. The simulations show that both scattering behaviour and polarisation charge distribution depend significantly on rounding. Rounding is also seen to have a major effect on coupling between nanostructures. The results suggest that it is important to incorporate the effect ...
متن کاملScattering reduction at near-infrared frequencies using plasmonic nanostructures.
Novel fabrication, detection and analysis approaches were employed to experimentally demonstrate scattering reduction by a plasmonic nanostructure operating at 1550 nm. The nanostructure consisted of a silicon nanorod surrounded by a plasmonic metamaterial cover comprised of eight gold nanowires and was fabricated by a combination of electron beam lithography, focused ion beam milling and dry a...

Gold nanoparticles with unique optical properties may be useful as biosensors in living whole cells. Using a simple and inexpensive technique, we recorded surface plasmon resonance (SPR) scattering images and SPR absorption spectra from both colloidal gold nanoparticles and from gold nanoparticles conjugated to monoclonal anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) antibodies after incuba...

We investigate the eigenvalue problem −div(σ∇u) = λu (P) in a 2D domain Ω divided into two regions Ω±. We are interested in situations where σ takes positive values on Ω+ and negative ones on Ω−. Such problems appear in time harmonic electromagnetics in the modeling of plasmonic technologies. In a recent work [15], we highlighted an unusual instability phenomenon for the source term problem ass...
متن کاملChiral Plasmonic Nanostructures
Noble-metal nanoparticles (NPs) occupy the top drawer in the toolbox of scientists working with optical materials. These NPs confine light in extremely small volumes, and their individual scattering properties can be designed virtually at will by shaping and arranging the NPs carefully. When their behaviour is considered collectively, the NPs can also be used as building blocks (meta-atoms or m...
